Internet Explorer 6.

I am using Windows XP and have developed a problem with my IE. When I first log on to internet my home page sometimes locks up or it will turn off IE and send me back to desktop. This does not happen all the time. Some time I can change web pages then without warning my IE will turn off and I am back at my desktop. Anyone have any suggestions ?

Re: Internet Explorer 6.

WEll your not very descriptive, but what it sounds like is that internet exploere has become unstabel, this may becasued by any thing realy (as windows dose stupid things) It could be that your computer is running low on system resorces or you went on a "Doggy" website (by doggy i mean it installed some thing on your computer with out telling you which is easily achived becase of IE's insecuritys) which is causing instability. i surgest you make sure there is nothing instaled that you didnt install and that you use Spy Bot S&D if that dosnt work then i carnt help you (By nature windows is unstabel, the average XP user will experiance the explorer crashing 5 - 10 times a day) Like i said it could litraly be any thing.

Try running the free online virus scan at www.trendmicro.com. I have found that it works better than Norton AV in most cases and is great for effective and complete virus troubleshooting. Of course, you have to be able to access the internet long enough to run the scan. To do this, enter Safe Mode with Networking. This will allow you to go into safe mode and still connect to the internet without your browser closing. Then you can run a full virus scan in safe mode which is the most effective av scan mode anyway.

This should solve your problem because I just fixed a customers computer today that had the exact same problem.

radzee,

There could be quite a few reasons for this crashing to happen. Let me address those reasons:

1) Your IE *may* need to be updated. Most often times Windows XP comes pre-installed with the latest version of IE, but this is not always the case. Try this: Go to www.microsoft.com and on the left hand side of the page where it says, "Windows Update," click that. It will be slow loading due to it checking for available updates. Crashing can be sign of a driver (software updates that keep your computer functioning properly) needing to be updated. If Windows Update finds anything available, go ahead and download those updates. Depending on your internet connection speed, this may take a little while.

2) As mentioned in the other posts Spybot S&D is the better Spyware removal program. You can download this application at: beam.to/spybotsd If you have any questions on installation or otherwise, feel free to message or e-mail me.

3) Has your starting home page in IE changed? Spyware can redirect web pages to a site where spyware is secretly installed in the background of your computer. In other words, without your knowing of it. If it has, contact me and I will walk you through how to change it back.

4) The best online virus scanner in my years of it consulting is Panda Active Scan. It finds both spyware & viruses both. It will automatically neutralize them for you, just as Norton does. You can find that site here: www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

I know this is a lot to do, but crashing can be caused by so many different things. It sounds to me though that this is a simple fix. If this problem persists and you would like further help, feel free to drop me a line.

Good luck!
