Install same program on computer twice at same time
I don't even know if this is possible.

I have a backup program that does not make multiple versions of backups by date. Other than that, I really like it. In the case of a corrupted hard drive, causing a corrupted backup file, I thought I could create 2 partitions on my backup drive and just alternate my backups. So far so good.

I have 5 backup configurations (backup jobs) for various files and folders (they run as a group at the same time). Each configuration has a backup destination drive letter. (They are all the same drive letter of course)

If I used the same program with 2 different partitions on the backup drive, I would have to go in and reconfigure 5 "backup jobs" to a different destination drive letter each day. Well, that's for the birds.

So I was wondering if I could install the same program on my PC twice, and configure each of the 2 versions to a different partition (backup drive letter). Then I could just alternate which of the 2 backup programs to open each day.

I know this sounds weird, and I'm sure I'll hear that I should get a different backup program, but I really like this one. It does everything I want and it is really simple to use.

Maybe the concern about a hard drive crash taking out (or corrupting) my backup files is overkill and would never happen. I don't know. (It did actually happened to me once)

    So, is this possible? How?

Wow you have a lot going on here so let's look at the installing the same program twice. Here the answer is... more than likely not in your case. You can install the same program more than once in some cases if you change the folder that you are installing to, this will keep the second install from overwriting the first. Most programs add items to other folders and these files may ore may not work well with more than one instance of the application running. Also any schedguling software may not work right with more than one instance running.
Second is five partual backups multale locations... all seems to make things hard. Hard to do backups either are not done, are messed up or... I can think of a thousand scrams and reasons many good to set up elaborate backups however my computer has to work my data has to be here, so I do a simple incremental backup and then sending a copy of the backup to the cloud. Do an incremental to a shared drive on anouther compiuter then run Carbonite on both computers. Not as cool as running five backups across mutable drives but it is redudnant easy to manage and effective.

Thanks. I figured it was not possible, but thought I'd see if there was some creative workaround.

Just to clarify that I am not as crazy as I sound, I am not trying to do 5 backups. I have 5 "backup jobs" each for a different file type, that are "grouped" together to make 1 seamless backup. No individual steps involved.

So my question was really about doing 2 backups, each on a different date, to a different backup partition, in case of a crash during a backup (which actually happened to me once). I figured I would just alternate backup days.

I can actually do this, but it means going into the property settings of each of the 5 backup jobs and changing the destination directory to the other partition. More than I am willing to do.

    Thanks for the feedback...
