How can I open an MPP file? Do I need Microsoft Project? Is there any way to open the file if I don't have it?

Summary There are multiple ways to open a Microsoft Project file without having the Microsoft Project application. Users provided several links and app names below to accomplish this task.

One of the more well known viewers is the "Seavus Project Viewer", it has lots of downloads with a large user base. An interesting option to try is a free online version located at: http://www.egantt.co.uk/

There are a few options for viewing MS Project (mpp) files without needing to buy MS Project itself. Namely ProjectViewerCentral, Seavus, Steelray and KSol offer project viewers for around $30-50. Then there's also LiveProject (which I've started using lately) that's free.

They pick Steelray because it is Steelray's website! Reviews are not objective at all!

As recommended above, I would also recommend Seavus Project Viewer.
