How do you get cookies on your computer
I was answering a question about cookies and thought someone else

Might like to find out more about "TRACKING COOKIES"

What Is My IP Address? - What is a Cookie?

Cookies are not what you think -- if you think someone is following you

They may be seeing what sites you visit and send targeted advertizing

    You bake them.

Cookies have gotten an unfairly maligned reputation. Yes some cookies are used to track where you go for the purposes of targeting advertising. But most cookies are used simply to make surfing easier.

Keep in mind too that unless you have spyware on your computer, cookies can only be read by the website that writes them. If you have spyware on your PC all bets are off. Typically though they'll have info like your login name and some preferences you may have set on the website.

Edit: There are sites like Webtrends, etc... that gather information on where you go but the site your visiting has to push your information to them. Those sites are typically well known and easily blocked.

Webtrends isn't a site, it's a stats gathering program installed on a web server.
Cookies are a normal occurrence of web surfing. I like the fact that some sites remember me, like this one for instance, I never have to log in.
