How Do I Recover Compacted Emails in Outlook Express?

My Outlook Express has compacted emails, which now seem lost to me! How can I retrieve emails?

Hi Benn11,
I need to find some previously sent & received emails and they seem to have disappeared! I think they were compacted, but I don't know how to retriee them. Most were in the Recycle Box marked as BAK Files. There also seems to be a folder on my computer that lists them as DBX Files. Ant idea a) How I can recover the emails? and b) Whether re-importing them would cause a crash?
I'd appreciate your help!!
