I want to build my own pc from scratch including new tower etc.

Does anyone out there have a simple step by step quide on how to do it. I want help and advice on everything from choosing the right motherboard to once finished how to format it etc. I would also like to hear what type of parts are the best and the way in setting it up.

If anyone has this in a file they can mail me then let me know and i'll let you have my address.

Re: help to build pc

May I ask why you are planning on doing this? If you are thinking this will save money, it won't.

Building a PC is not a simple process. First you have to decide what components you want and make sure they will work together. Assembling the components is very easy, but then configuring the machine to get everything working right can be a very frustrating task. I would not recommend it. Just asking for a simple step by step guide indicates you really don't understand what's involved.

I can recommend http://www.anandtech.com as a great place for hardware info.

Re: help to build pc

Hi,
I would suggest using a search engine, like; www.google.com.
Type in "building a pc", then click on Search.
It will give you an idea of what is involved; and will offer many websites to help you.
Good luck!!, and I wish you the best.

Re: help to build pc

Hi Charlie,

Your best bet for DIY PC's is finding a friend who knows what he's talking about and will give you a hand.

The beauty of building it yourself is that you have ultimate control over what you put in - you may want the fastest graphics card you can find but not need a fast CD-ROM or something, and chances are the shops don't have exactly what you need.

But it is a complicated process - you have to remember EVERYTHING. No good getting all the bits in a pile and realizing you forgot to get a CPU!

As for step-by-step guides, as I say, find someone to help you, or even get a local computer shop to do it for you - and let you watch.
You might even find that the motherboard manual has a list of instructions - but don't quote me!

Trying to explain this way is nigh on impossible but you should be able to find LOADS of web sites dedicated to building a PC - as the other replies mentioned.

But finally, if you do it for financial reasons, remember that you have to spend time building and if it doesn't work time you may have to restrain yourself and not through the whole lot out a window!

Have fun.

David.

Re: help to build pc

While it may not work out cheaper or easier than buying pre-built, I can tell you it's immensely satisfying to put all the bits together and have it POST correctly when you first power up! I just finished my first whole build a few weeks ago (Leadtek nForce2 m/board & Athlon2000+).Also saved enough on a secondhand monitor to buy a much better "box".
So ask friends who know, research how and what on the net, and go for it! The best site I found was www.motherboards.org with excellent tutorials, but others such as tomshardware.com were helpful in deciding what to buy.
Best of luck!

More Websites

Anyone one of these websites, offer step by step guides, some with pics also, I'm sure you may have built your PC by now, but this might help others looking to build and may help you in future setups.
