downloading movies i get audio visual not video

i joined a download engine and when i download some files i get the audio to play but the video will not play instead i get techni colored lights.
some movies play fine but not all.
does anyone know how i can get video to play on all downloads or are these files just not compatable with my system.
just to expand i download on avi, mpeg, and mpg some come out fine others are sound with audeo visual.
I would appreciate any sugestions and help.

You probably don't have the right codecs installed. A nice codec to use is FFdshow.

Had the same problem solved it with Codecs.

I have about 5 codecs that I run when i set up my PCs and it soved all of my problems.
Is there any way I can send them to you if not, when i get home i will give you the tittle of each codec then you might be able to find them on the net.

Make sure you have all the new versions of the media player.
does the service offer any kind of help, this is usually the easiest way to solve.

rhbell agrees: thanks tryed media player 11 but did not like it as well as 10 so went back to it but did find codecs
