installing video driver

I have just downloaded the catalyst 5.8 driver for my radeon 9600 series video card I also downloaded the uninstaller, however I later noticed that the control panel was seperate so it looks like I have to download that also.

Is the following the correct procedure

Remove all ATI products from add remove which consists of the following
with the uninstaller ( or just by using the remove in add remove)
1 ATI software uninstall utility ( did not know it was already there)
2 ATI hydravision (do I need this )
3 ATI contol panel
4 ATI display driver

then close down
reboot
windows I assume then says found new hardware

what do I do then ?????????????????

thank you for any answers
john macklin

Video Card

Hi,
Here is a link:

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...asp?deptID=894

You might have already been there; it contains all the downloads you need, and on the left, has options for reading how to install it.
First thing, is to uninstall your old video drivers, and reset computer to VGA Standard.
You must first do that (for most cards and drivers installation) by going to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and Remove the current card's software.
Then, when you re-boot, it will come up into VGA desktop. From there, start you installations.
Best of luck,
fredg

Make sure you have unzipped the drivers to a folder on your hard drive and that you know where that folder is. Before removing the ATI software go into display settings and set your video adapter to Standard SVGA. Then reboot. It may not detect new hardware at this point. If it doesn't go into display settings and change the video adapter back. You will probably see a prompt for Have Disk. Select that and point to the folder that you unzipped the drivers to.

There should be install instructions where you downloaded the files.

I'm not sure what the hydravision is, but the Control Panel is just an ATI interface to control the card. It does give you more control then Display Settings. You don't need that stuff for normal operation, but you may for using some of the extended features.
