My computer keeps unexpectadly turning off and sometimes not coming back on

Asked Aug 20, 2008, 06:53 AM — 4 Answers
Whenever I am using my computer, it sometimes just turns off. Ill be in the middle of watching a movie or in the middle of a game, and it just unexpectedly turns off. And when I go back to turn it on. It keeps turning off several times before the welcome screen comes on. I am afraid that this unexpected shutting down of my computer is permanently damaging it. Is there anyway that you can help me resolve my problem?. I would appreciate it very VERY much

A lot of times this behavior is caused by excessive heat. Make sure the PC's fan is running and that the vents are unobstructed. As an experiment, you could temporarily remove the side panel and see if that helps. If it does, then you most certainly have a heat issue.

Hope this helps,

I've had the side cracked open on my wife's computer for years. I blow out the case quite regularly since the computer sits so close to an outside window it fills with dust quite rapidly.

I've read that the fans were made to work in a forced air environment, so they won't cool as well with the case open. Also, there's less dust that way, and they can be cleaned out periodically. As for the crashes, find out what operating system you have, and go onto a forum with that os to ask.

You should check, maybe its a problem with your PSU. Don't turn on for now before your PC is fixed. Because I have an experience with this before. I do what you do, and finally my motherboard is damaged. Ask a computer expert to fix your problem if you don't know anything about hardware.
