no dvd rom and dvd ram drive

my xp does not detect any dvd rom and dvd ram drive
it does'nt show any icon in my computer
while booting it shows ATAPI incompactible
i tried to connect only master drive but does'nt work

did this just start happening? was there anything done to the PC before this started happening? When was the last time youe saw the drive in My Computer? As much info you can give will help.

Jas,

Open the Accessories menu and look for the System Tools. Once there, find the hardware profiles. Once there, review the list of hardware devices.

You are looking for two things. One, the device is flagged as disabled. Click on it to enable the device.

Two, Watch out for any device conflicts. This will also be listed out and highlighted.

You might want to do a System Restore to an earlier date. I'd do this only if it had been working before and suddenly stopped working. Restore to an earlier working date.

i solved this problem it was a virus my bit defender found it
virus disabled the ide port
so all i have to do is enable the ide port again
and now it is working fine

Glad you found your compouter problem -- system restore is like a band aid

may hide the real problem -- or you may restore the problem
