Well, it's really a matter of preference. Each one can only allow you to talk to other users using the same service.
What I suggest you do is use a multi-protocol messenger cabable of utilising msn, yahoo, aim, etc. I use
gaim, which IMHO provides much better functionality and better features than yahoo and especially msn.
