Browser won't open swf files

Previously I have been viewing trainng videos that were accessed via Internet Explorer through the Flash add on. Recently I'm unable to do that and get a message that I need to install flash or allow javascript. I've altered the browser to allow javascript and downloaded and installed flash 10 I've also changed security to medium but I still cant get the files to open & display. Can anyone give me a clue as to how i might solve my problem.

hi there.
im new to this site and your the first answer im giving.
there are some small issues with your PC.
firstly flashplayer 10 does have some faults in in, some many disagree but its true. use version9 much better or a higher version.
also use firefox instead of explorer and also down shockwaves player from adobe.com
you can download the flash player from ther, make sure you use a virus free PC when you download it.
im speaking from experience here.
if that doesnt sort it out that go to java.com
and download the latest version of java.
once thats installed if it downt work again
then go to download.com and download java from there or any download or torrent software you use.
when you download java from java.com its not the completer java files you need, as it connects to the internet to download the rest. so using your download methods download java (the full package) around bout 17-20mbs

hopefully that should sort the problem, if not then reinstall sevice pack 3 for xp, downlable at microsoft.com

But to also add to above, some new flash that are being presented on net are now using the updated version to 'make' and would need the newer version to view

Follow above to see if that will help and also you did mention that you installed flash 10, here is latest version for both flash and shockwave

Shockwave and Flash Player 11.0.3.472 (Complete Standalone Installer)

http://www.softwarepatch.com/internet/shockwave.html

Also, here is a site where you can check current installed versions of each

Test Adobe Shockwave & Flash Players

Adobe - Test Adobe Shockwave and Flash Players

What version of IE are you using? You may need to reinstall the Shockwave Flash add-on. You can find where to manage your add-ons under tools in IE.
