Battery Light Keeps Flashing

My Dell Inspiron 1100's battery light won't stop flashing. The battery ran down three days ago and put the computer in suspend mode. I quickly plugged in the AC adapter to recharge the battery but the light has been flashing ever since.
When I unplug it, the computer will run on battery power for about an hour (not that it was ever great), then I plug it in again but it never seems to completely recharge.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
J

You will need to replace the battery, sooner or later.

Sounds like it has reached the point where it can no longer accept a full charge, thus the light keeps blinking because it can't get to 100%.

The batteries do wear out, and have to be replaced, but if you are OK with an hour for now, there is no hurry to do so.
