adding special characters

I need to add the special characters for typing in French and Spanish in Microsoft Works. How do I add these special accented letters?

Look at the Insert menu, see if there is a choice for symbols. If not, you will need to find the ASCII value for the symbol you want and enter it from the numeric keypad while holding down the Alt key.

If you have Microsoft XP go to START>REgional and Languages and add a SPANISH keyboard set (I usually use MEXICO but that's just because I grew up with it(. It might ask you for the XP cd. then choose the option to add to the taskbar. At this point you should see an EN on the task bar...
Open your works document first (or any other program where you might want to add spanish characters too.... including internet searches)
Then set the input keyboard to ES for spanish on the taskbar
your ñ will be where the SEMICOLON is.
YOur acento (adiós) will be the key next to the P, first the acento then the letter
Your open parenthesis will be Uppercase 8, closing Parenthesis Uppercase 9.
Opening ¿ question mark will be the EQUAL = sign
Opening exclamation point ¡¡¡¡ will be the PLUS sign + sign

Just make sure to switch keyboards when you are done

I find this a lot faster than inserting one character at the time.
If you have it, you might also want to add the spanish spell checker to your computer. Hope this helps...

Not sure at 100% for Works but Word and Wordpad permits to concatenate accent and a character using <ctrl> accent letter

<ctrl> '
e
produces and accented e
