sorting sport cards

How should I sort the baseball, basketball, football cards that I found in order to get the best price? I sorted cards by teams, now should I sort by year and then the card maker such as Topps? When cards state Gold or All Star, is it best to keep them together with all the teams or separate them by their team name? I have no clue what I am doing, just hoping to make money on my find. Thank You

I have a pretty extensive collection. Although, I can't say that it's that organized other than being protected under plastic in a three-ring binder.

You've got me thinking here. I could be doing better with my own collection.

Okay. I would suggest sorting by the sport first; then the teams; then I would alphabetize the players within the teams so that they are easier to find; then the individual players by their years, but still keep them in alphabetic order. I would put the Gold or All-Stars with their teams at the end of their teams and put the players in alphabetic order.

I don't think organizing by the manufacturer of the card is all that important. But, I do think that it is important to have the players alphabetized within their team. Collectors aren't looking for cards of a certain manufacturer, they will be looking for the players and can then find them by the teams for which they played.

I would think that a well organized collection would be much more likely to fetch a better price when looking at the overall collection and for being able to find individual players better.

Just an idea anyway. I hope that it is helpful. Maybe someone else has a better idea.
