1776-1976 Kennedy clad half dollar

I have a 1776-1976 Kennedy clad half dollar with an s mint mark that appears to be out of place, it is located just below the D in GOD and to the left of Presidents neckline. The vast major of 1776-1976 Kennedy clad half dollar have the mint mark below Presidents neckline and centered above dates. Do I have a mint mistake and maybe a valuable coin or a counterfeit coin?

Dogman153 - I do not believe that it is counterfeit because there was some made in san fransico that has the mint mark of ( S ) and it is located almost just above the 1 of 1976 just under the neckline. mintage was 7,059099, book says approximate number, they were minted in 1975 & 1976. Value is - MS-63 -$ 1.50.- Pf-65 $2.00. - P f= proof . I hope I have answered your question, if not came back on here and I'll see what we can do , otherwise rate my answer below. My answer is out of the 2008 book;; Good Day 7 GOD BLESS :::: F.B.E. Good evening clough. youer going to go and turn that big fan off it's blowing pretty cold air down my way, yesterday it was 76 degrees here and today it only got to 44 felt like 15

1776-1976 Kennedy clad half dollar

I agree with Cloug on most of the 1776-1976 but the s mint mark on this half dollar is above the second 7 in 1776 not above the 1 in 1976. I guess I do not explain the position correctly in my first question. If anyone has an answer please advise. The weather has been colder than usual here also.

Hi, dogman153!

I decided to merge your new question with your previous question so that there would be less confusion since Flying Blue Eagle had already answered your first one. I am sure that he will be along to help you again.

Dogman153 - I have double checked every wereand I can nmot find anything showing that the ( S0 mint mark was that far over,I even went to the special sectoin on that $.50 piecewhich is ( MISSTRIKES AND ERRORS ) :: ( it gives rateings of 1 to 6,with different values for each number ){ NUMBER 2 - MYLTIPLE STRIKE _ $ 400.00 } { Number 4 - DEFECTIVE DIE $ 80.00 } -{ Number 5 - OFF CENTER _ would be $300.00 } :::: Let me say this , it is very possible that you have a NUMBER 5 or a Number 4; . The only way is to have it GRADED< CERTIFIED< ENCAPSULATED .:: BY ( ANACS ) For a free submission form visit ( ANACS Home Page ) OR contact them at ( p.o. box200300, AUSTIN TEXAS 78720-0300 YOU may have the only one known so far and that would make it even more valuable. I have a 1956 lincoln head penny, that I got in change back then and noticed that the ( 1 ) looked like the letter ( S ) I talked to the denver mint and they told me they knew nothing of a misstrick like that, this was back in early 70's It was not a counterfit , they encapsulated and athentaczated FOR me . Im afared that if you took it to a reg coin shop that they would try to convince you it was a reg coin and talk you into selling it to them ;; I hope this helps you out,Please let CLOUGH and ME know what you find out;;; Good luck & GOD BLESS :: F.B.E. HELLO CLOUGH> HOPE YOUER DOING OK
