Very different understanding of same God, scripture

Hello all,

I was born and raised a Baptist. I beleive in the word of god, however because of How I think, I always have tried to explain things with both science and the word.

For example. I believe that evolution and creation BOTH happened. Time would not be a factor to god. God creating Man from the dirt and Man evolving from micro-organisms would seem similar all depending on who god placed the vision to write Genesis.

I have alot of these. I try to discuss some with my family and other christians but they just shut down and fall into " well .. that is just the way it is.. mode"

That's the ongoing struggle...

There had to be a creator. And it's probably the same we all inevitably refer to.
This chunk of stone we ride on didn't just occur with intelligent intervention. Everything has an origin. Matter is matter, enough?
The planet is roughly 4.5 billion years old. Year's as we humans know them.
Mankind has (recently) inhabited for nearly 6000 years.
This isolated bit of debris in the cosmos did evolve and continues to do so. Pangea. Tectonic plate shift causes quakes, etc...

Stewart - you may want to investigate other Christian denominations besides Baptists to see what they have to say on this. Baptists are generally noted for their literal interpretation of the bible, and hence their automatic dismissal of any scientific evidence that shows the story of Genesis to not be literally accurate. There are other denominations that believe the bible is not a scientific text book, but rather must be understood in the historical and cultural context in which it was written. Here are websites from two such denominations - Episcopalian and Lutheran (ELCA) - who don't object to the thought that creation took more than six days, that the earth is billions of years old, that life has been present on earth for hundreds of millions of years, that man has been around for hundreds of thousands of years, and that evolution may indeed be God's way.

The question you have to ask yourself is:

Does evolution deny the existence of God? Is it man's way of explaining life without the Creator?
Does evolution deny life after death?
Does evolution PROVE how life came about from non-life?
It is only theory, but is often taught as fact.

As a Christian, is love of God, first and foremost in your heart?
If it is, that is all that matters. You have the freedom to disagree or agree with evolution.
