The Bible contains a mixture of genre's. Depending on the truth which is being conveyed, some of it is parable, some is myth. But most is historically accurate.

Sincerely,

The bible contains as noted parables and stories that on how to live a good and proper life, and how to interact with your fellow man. Even if you never accepted God, the principles you have there would always be a good way to live.

And you will get athists that will tell you that it is all false and there is no God, and they have the right to beleive ( or not believe) if they wish.

The first thing you want to do is read the new Testement find the God that is the loving God, the one who had his son die for all of us.

Worry about the old testement after you have found God and want then to know more about who he is.

Archeology has proven the Bible history correct many times. I don't accept the idea that there are myths in the Bible. Parables, yes, and they are explained, so you don't have to wonder what is meant. Chuck's suggestion to start with the New Testament is a good one.

It appears la voleuse, you were merely wanting some athiest or non beleiver to tell you it is not true, If so please go to a non christian board for such discussions. If you want to know what the christian view point is, and how the bible is proven thouigh evidence you can ask additional questions here.

Just a word of warning.

Be very careful what you say here, if those that have the power of God on this site don't like what you say, or disagree with it, it will simply be removed or closed so that no one else can voice any opinion or offer any advise or alternative to your thoughts or opinions.

Funny though, I didn't read anywhere that this was exclusively a Christian site, can anyone tell me where the Non Christian board can be found?

That ISN'T actually true.
What gets posts removed and threads closed is attacks of a personal nature.
Stick to the topic and everything is good, veer off on a offensive tangent and that's when things happen.

AMHD is a non-political SECULAR site so every one has equal rights to voice their opinions.

Belief is an individual experience based on assumptions instead of on facts and supported views. If you believe in God or not is part of your perception of reality.

For most Christian people the Bible is a guideline for life. For many it is also "the word of God". For others it is a book of myths based on 2000 to 7000 year old stories from the Middle East, with many of these stories more or less copied from other religions.
For this latter group the Bible is inaccurate, and a mixture of mistakes, misinterpretations, and other obscurities.
Specially the Old Testament shows the dark side of Christianity. Reason for many - even in this thread - to focus on the New Testament, while using the Old Testament mainly for selected references, often used out of context.

Historically many data in the Bible may be correct, but the question is if that is relevant towards the accuracy of essence of the Bible, the claim that the Bible is "the word of God". My personal view is that that is not the case.

God's existence, qualities, and demands on humanity are the essence of the Bible. and for that there is nothing to support that with objective evidence.
The Bible is not a book of science, nor a book of history. It is a book full of unsupported religious claims. A book however that also as focal point of Christianity should be treated with respect. No matter if you believe or not believe in God.

Ciao !

Fr_Chuck disagrees: no actually most of the history of the bible is proven
ahnshantay : I agree with Chuck. There have been so many things in the Bible proven to be true...but you will rarely hear about it on secular television. You should take a look burtyjim...it's sooo interesting!
