The Dragon

Does anyone have any insight as to the "Dragon" in the Bible? I know it refurs to Satan but someone told me they believe it is China. With China's president visiting us , I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to it's significance.

Does the Bible actually say "dragon"? Where is that? I know it refers to a serpent or a snake... but I dont recall Dragon. Is the Hebrew for dragon the same as serpent?

According the the KJV Hebrew Lexicon there are two words used in the Hebrew scriptures which are translated as dragon. One is tannah, which is found in the book of Malachi. The other is tanniyn which is found in Genesis1 Exodus, Deuteronomy1 Nehemiah1 Job2. This word can be understood as referring to a dragon, serpent, sea monster, dinosaur sea or river monster, serpent, or venomous snake.

Here are the scriptures which mention the dragon and identify it with Satan.

Revelation 12:3
And there was seen another sign in heaven: and behold, a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his heads seven diadems.

4
And his tail draweth the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon standeth before the woman that is about to be delivered, that when she is delivered he may devour her child.

7
And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels going forth to war with the dragon; and the dragon warred and his angels;

9
And the great dragon was cast down, the old serpent, he that is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world; he was cast down to the earth, and his angels were cast down with him.

13
And when the dragon saw that he was cast down to the earth, he persecuted the woman that brought forth the man child.

16
And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

17
And the dragon waxed wroth with the woman, and went away to make war with the rest of her seed, that keep the commandments of God, and hold the testimony of Jesus:

Revelation 13

2
And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his throne, and great authority.
4
and they worshipped the dragon, because he gave his authority unto the beast; and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? And who is able to war with him?

11
And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like unto lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

Revelation 16:13
And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits, as it were frogs:

Revelation 20:2
And he laid hold on the dragon, the old serpent, which is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,

BTW

The things that Revelation described were things that had not taken place yet. They were to take place during the time of the end that Jesus mentioned in Matthew 24. I remind the reader of this because some say that the hurling of Satan to earth had already occurred even though John was clearly told that the things he was about to be shown had as yet not occurred or come to pass. In short, the Revelation is one big prophecy given to us in symbols.

Revelation 1
1The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

Just this last Monday, on my boring drive around TN, I was listening to "christian" radio. Well it must have been end time week or something,
as I moved from area to area, there were four different preachers each with sure fire evidence of what this was.

to one, yes it was China,
another had it being the Catholic Church
another had it being nations united in the middle east
and the last had it as the US protestant churches

and they all used almost the same bible verses to prove thier point

Muddled scriptural interpretations are simply Satan's way of trying to prevent the light of God's Word from being understood.

2 Corinthians 4:4
in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn upon them.

Anyone can say anything about anything in Revelation. The question is does it really have scriptural support or does it plainly contradict what has been clearly explained in the Bible itself?

For example, people might interpret the Dragon mentioned in Revelation in a thousand different ways and say that their interpretation is the correct one. But that doesn't nullify the scriptures which clearly tell us that the dragon of Revelation stands for Satan. People might also claim that Satan's being hurled from heaven to earth, as described in Revelation, had already happened before John's time. But that doesn't nullify Revelation's introduction where we are told that it is a book of prophecy and that the things shown to John were things which ha as yet not taken place.

Unfortunately for those who aspire to interpret scripture any way they wish, many things are just plain clear causing any diverging personal misinterpretation to stand out like the proverbial sore thumb.

But in the end, those who were meant to understand it properly will and those who were never meant to benefit from it won't.

2 Timothy 3:7
ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

BTW
We either respect the Bible as God's Word or we don't. There is no middle ground.

1 Kings 18:21
And Elijah came near unto all the people, and said, How long go ye limping between the two sides? if Jehovah be God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

The book of Revelation is about the past, present, and future.
