Did we lose a day somewhere?

Asked Oct 26, 2008, 08:50 PM — 17 Answers
I have been baffled and troubled by this simple oversight since I took Spanish class in the 7th grade. The word in Spanish for saturday "Sabados" translates literally to "Sabbath Day."

What troubles me, is when I look at a calendar...any calendar with the entire week listed.

Here is what the fourth commandment says...in my Bible

4 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

What day on your calendar is the seventh?
Why did God tell us to remember the Sabbath day?
Do you think He thought we might forget?
Do you think I just think too deeply about silly things?
Did we lose a day somewhere?
Why do we as Christians worship on Sunday, and not SABADOS?

Because of Jesus' resurrection (on Sunday/Domingo), in the Christian world Sunday has become the first day of the week and is placed first on a Western calendar.

See, I have asked that question to my Pastor as well.

That is the same answer he gave me.

It only confuses me further. I truly believe in Jesus...I have studied my Bible.

Thoroughly combed it over and over again trying to find an answe to that question.

That has been twenty years ago. I don't see anywhere in there where he said believe in me, and you don't need to keep my commandments. But a lot of christians will say to that that Jesus came to relieve us of the jewish law. That I don't argue with...no need for "kosher" foods etc...etc.... And the Sabbath, to me, is linked in with those by some. I feel that is a mistake. The Sabbath was one of God's laws. Not the laws of man, which is what Jesus came to relieve us from.

I believe that even in the love of Jesus' sacrifice, he Remembered the Sabbath. Any christian preacher will tell you that he died on Friday....was dead (resting)Saturday, then rose on Sunday. I wish someone could point out to me the facts of the matter. Un arguable, undeniable truth, that I should keep Sunday holy. Maybe I missed somewhere where God froze time for a day?

I haven't thought about this for a while, but a question in another thread Has brought it back to my mind.

Trandy agrees: I don't deny that Jesus rose on Sunday. But God said remember the 7th day, and keep it holy.
The New Testament is the fulfilling of the Old Testament.

In the OT, God said remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. That was under the Law. The Law was negative, "thou shalt NOT."

The NT is under the Gospel. The Law has become only a guide; it cannot save us. The Gospel is celebrated when we obey Jesus' two great commandments--love God and love each other.

To celebrate the day of Jesus' resurrection, Christians have made Sunday God's holy day.
