Try reading Acts in the Bible. Christians are followers of Jesus so I would say Christianity started with the apostles.

The teachings of Jesus gave birth to Christianity that started off from the Roman province of Palestine and spread to the rest of Europe and finally to the entire world. Im not sure but another interesting fact that i have read recently is that Iraq is the second most mentioned country in the Bible and that it has strong links to the beginning of Christianity.

Skell makes an awesome point. If we really want to trace Christianity back to its beginnings, we have to do the same with Judaism, which is what Christianity arose out of. Abraham is the earthly father of the Jewish faith, and his origin was in present-day Iraq.

However, if we are looking only for the origin of the movement of Christianity as we know it, then Israel would be the answer.

And a third option for those who dig technicalities: the word "Christian" was not used while Jesus was alive--it didn't gain use until well after the resurrection. The first place the word "Christian" (which means "little Christ") was used was at the church in Antioch---modern-day Syria.

So I guess you can take your pick from the above, depending on what you're looking for.
