Why is it that there are many Christians who believe they are Christian, but have sex or fondle with others outside of marriage? Do they not know they will go to hell because of fornication or do they just choose to ignore?
Sorry but I'm not asking for an atheist nonreligious point of view, if you didn't know the answer then you should have not answered. This is about religion versus western culture, your answer belongs in the "other religious/nonreligious category".

I'm not Christian, anymore, but that's how I was raised.
I find that most people that call themselves Christian pick and choose the things they want to follow.
Don't like a part of the bible, find another part, change it around to fit your views and then claim that you're living life according to the bible.
In other words, they choose to ignore it.
That's just my opinion, I know others will disagree.
Thanks Altenwig. I'm nolonger Christian either, but what raised Christian in a very strict Christian home. I agree with what you say about the cherry picking...
Golden_Girl,
Not all Christians have this problem I'm sure, but I'm also sure that many have had it to one extent or another; even if is is just lust.
That kind of activity has been often referred to as being a cafeteria Christian.
That is people who chose what they want to believe and do or not do as apposed to the opposite.
Then there are those who do fall into the sin of fornication due to overwhelming desire, but later feel very guilty of it and are remorseful about it.
If they then ask for forgiveness they are forgiven.
Peace and kindness,
Fred

I trust we have to permit eveyone their own right to chose their path in life, and allow them to be accountable to that choice. And while your opinion shows criticism for the imperfect world we live in, it also shows no respect for the freedom that each has to embrace the call to salvation.
I am also sure that we cannot deny an equal freedom to what your mind has elected to reject in the evidence which has convinced us to follow Christ.
I recognize Christ came to give us division, from what is right and wrong. As well HE brought us freedom from this imperfect world that had us cursed in death. I admit being accountable to do no wrong is not an easy cross for us to bear, but I believe in HIS righteousness and crucifixion that brought us forgiveness.
No Sndbay, that is called cherry picking. You choose some parts of the bible to embrace, and then the other parts to ignore and rearrange to secular beliefs. My reason for asking is because there are many who do not "practice what they preach".
I'm not saying "don't do this, and don't do that", I am simply asking isnt there something wrong about being hypocritical and does that show a good example to the youth who are clearly observing?
If you are a religious person and dedicated yourself to worship God and follow the teachings, then say "everyone is permitted their own right to chose their path in life" is hypocritical and selfish because the youth and children are going to follow what their elders are doing as well as portraying the preaching but no practicing, and then copy what their elders are doing without considering the later consequences that comes along with premarital sex.
I'm not saying they should or should not do these things. I'm simply questioning why not practice what you (in general) preach and wouldnt that be considered hypocritical? Excluding secular beliefs and culture of do what you want and whenever you want ideas is selfish, when you are supposed to be a leader, and yet conscoiusly or subconsciously leading others down the wrong path?
Sorry, but that's the wrong set of footprints to be walking in the sand...no punt intended..
There are numerous Scriptures that declare sex before marriage to be a sin, so why do it? (Acts 15:20; 1Corinthians 5:1; 6:13, 18; 10:8; 2 Corinthians 12:21; Galatians 5:19; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; Jude 7).
It is the current idea that there is NO such thing as absolute right or wrong. Since the Bible deals with those issues, the Christian is obligated to accept the Biblical concepts, without excuses.
Sin is sin, and is forgivable, but the Christian can NOT make sin his lifestyle and continue to claim the Christian label.
Jesus is both SAVIOR AND LORD. You cannot use Jesus to escape Hell and not make Him your LORD (BOSS).
If He can't be Lord of your life, then He will not be your Savior.
Luke 6:46
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
(KJV)

galveston,
You are right about that.
And if I'm going to be accused of cherry picking by choosing to follow Jesus then so be it.
In fact I like cherries.
