my 2 month old son doesnt like tummy time and his doctor says that he needs to have more of it. he holds his head great when he is upright but when he is on his tummy he just rubs his nose in the ground. ive tried to put those little tummy time pillows under him and my boppy pillow ive even tried it on top of my stomach but it is all the same and he just crys. is it really that important? any suggestions as to how to get him to like it more?

Amyone86, I am a new mom also...well he is two but he is my first child. He didn't like to have tummy time either, so I would put him on a pillow facing the telvison and put on little einstiens...he loved it. Those movies are miracle. Also lay with you child to show that tummy time isn't scary. I hope this helps.

It takes patience. You need to make it a regular routine of stomach time everyday and eventually your baby will come to like it. Make sure there are toys in front of him and your laying down on the floor with him and encouraging him/her.

Yes, it is important because it helps develope muscles in his/her neck, shoulders and etc...

Every baby developes differently and honestly if he/she does not like anything and cries and you always rescue then he/she will be afraid of everything will not progress as well.

As far as a two month old please do not leave him cry too long, but always be persistant everyday and always make sure you have stomach time. Might take a while but believe me it will get better and easier in the long run.

I had this with my first child (now 3yrs). I know this may sound hurtful but I made my son have tummy time for 10 mins every 2 hours a day at least or every time I had to go and fold clothes, wash dishes etc. as my health nurse told me that he needed more tummy time. He cried and cried but I just had to ignore the crying. Some times I sat with him and rattled my keys or made some noises even talked on the phone, eventually he got stronger in his arms and began enjoying tummy time..

Your son may also be having a little discomfort when he is on his tummy due to maybe clothing if there are buttons on the front or even the pressure, but he will get use to it, it just takes time and patience. Just keep in mind that he may not be able to see you and that's why he cries cause he knows that if he cries he will see you...

Neither one of my children cared for tummy time everytime I put my daughter on her tummy for tummy time she would either spit up or roll over yes roll over at 2 months she was quick too. I just set her on my stomach and talked to her or place a mirror in front of your baby and put them on a pillow or something and if that doesn't work you may just try and do some exercises with him to built up those muscles Hope this helps

You should not be using pillows for an infant of 2 months.Just hold him close to you and make sure he is breathing ok.I know it is scary with the first baby.He just needs your love.

if you place him on a firm pillow it is not any different than using a boppy it just gives the baby more support on their tummy and not so much pressure.

Do NOT use pillows with an infant!! Give up tummy time for a month and do other exercises to strengthen neck--e.g., my daughter liked to be pulled up gently to sitting (just support the head a little until it is no longer needed). Try tummy time again one month later, and if your son still doesn't like it, keep on with the other types of exercises. Parenting advice takes the approach that all infants are the same; but they are not. Your son is still going to sit up and crawl and walk like all other infants; if it takes him an extra month because he hates tummy time, how bad is that? Beats torturing him for 10 minutes a day (if it helps, I teach Child Development at the college level).
