18 year old living at home--their financial responsibility?
We have an 18 yr old living at home, going to community college full time and who works full time. She is never home, doesn't check in with us, doesn't tell us where she is or what she is doing, and only comes home to shower and sleep. She uses our gym membership, we pay for her car insurance, cell phone, and most recently, a new laptop for school, not to mention all her health related expenses and items she needed for her CNA classes. She has now asked for us to pay for school supplies for her new schedule at college. What the heck do you need for college? A few notebooks? Ok. But she wants ridiculous, useless crap. When do you draw the line and what exactly should we be paying for? She keeps telling us we are being unfair and too strict.

You pay for what you want to pay for. You have no obligation to support her once she is 18. If she wants to live under hour roof she has to abide by your rules.

But, school supplies for college can be expensive. She should have a list given her by the school or instructor. Have her give you the list.

Normally if they are in my house, they answer to me, my 20 year olds always did. They have to say where they are going and when they come back, they have have required to come back to live in my house.

They pay most of their own bills if working full time, their car for sure and cell phone. So you are allowing her to waste and blow all of her money and you pay all the bills
