Does anyone have any advice on getting an objecrt out of a child's nose? One of my son's stuck a bead in his nose and he is too young to blow, so it won't come out. It is not blocking his airway but I don't think it should stay in there. If nothing comes up I think I am taking him to the doctor in a couple of hours. The doctor we saw earlier said to just leave it but I really don't think so. Any ideas?

get a bulb syringe and suck it out, It needs to come out, I can't believe a Dr said to leave it!
This reminded me of when my Niece shoved a rasin up her nose,, It absorbed moisture and turned back into a grape! Talk about a challenge getting that thing out

I also cannot believe a Doctor would have said that! If he/she did, do NOT go back to that Doctor.
It needs to come out, and could possibly go on down further. You might have to see an Ear-Nose-Throat doctor, if you can't get to see a Family Doctor.

B****yhell, what an idiot of a doctor, take your child to a proper doctor so he can take it out! (however tempting it is to keep it in for a talking point at parties, dont)! They will probably remove it with plyers or something, I wouldnt recomend doing it your self, cos you might push it further....

Poor kid Learnt something though, I bet.

Hi, thanks for all of your words of encouragement. I WASN'T WRONG!!! I knew that didn't sound right about what the doctor said. I think he just didn't want to push the subject because when he did try to take it out, my son freaked.

Just thought I would update you. I took my son to the ER and leaving it in wasn't even an option. I knew it. They swaddled him and tried to suck it out. It just wouldn't quite come, but with a little bit of convincing they got it out with some sort of pick thing when they could see it.

For the future I heard of a home remedy that I thought was funny but apparently works so I thought I would share it, just in case.
1. cover the nostril that isn't plugged
2. cover their mouth with yours (like in CPR)
3. give a short blow

I heard it works great for some things.

Oh No No no nonononononononon I have been watching this thread on pins and needles hoping no one would give That advice.. Please PLEASE NEVER do this.. The air goes down into the lungs as well as out through the nasopharyngeal( nose) You can easily pop a lung and cause serious damage in small children.
Now you can certainly cover the child's nose with your mouth and SUCK out the object.. depending on how strong a stomach you have! Bulb syringes work much better

Thanks for correcting that theory J9 and Fr Chuck. I'm glad we didn't take that advice either. The ER was great, they at least know what they are doing there.

Sorry about posting the blowing solution. I hope no one tries it.

2. It was a very good thing I had already eaten dinner last night when I read this thread! LOL
3. I couldn't have kids and this was a nice reminder what the dedicated work being responsible for them is like.
