Is my period lasting to long?

Today is my 4th day on my 1st period and it is showing no signs of slowing down or stopping. Everybody i've asked says it starts slowing down around the 4th and 5th day but mine isn't! Am I ok????

Everyone is different. Some women finish their period in 3 days! Amazingly, you can shorten your period with frequent exercise. But it is not uncommon for women to have their period for more than 5 days.

Yes, this is normal for you if this is your first. Please do not try and slow your period down by exercising, this is NOT healthy!!!!

Please understand that it may take up to a year for you to know how often you get them and how long they will last.

Shortening your period by exercising is a very dangerous practice and can lead to medical problems, please do not try this.

Just curious, what kind of medical problems?

ANd of course I was not referring to intentionally exercising in order to shorten the length of your period. Perhaps I should have said female athletes have shorter periods due to their high levels of activity.

There can be several, actually there can be a form of anemia, and bone density loss to name a couple.

The only reason I answered such as I did was because this is a young and impressionable girl. Please read that this is her first period. We don't want to give questionable advice to the younger ones.

Yes, female athletes may have shorter periods, but most of the time they also take vitamin supplements also.

My doc says that exercise can help with menstruation cramps, is this true?
I assume this advice is for women who are more developed than our original poster.
