Baby Question

Have a new baby, little over a month. All of a sudden the baby started crying in a completely different way. It was forced and high pitched and sounded like he was in pain. Brought him in to the doctor and the doctor seemed concerned as well. He is feeding well, gaining wait well. The crys were scary. The doctor at first said when babys cry like that it could mean they are having stomach pain, or they are might have a throat or viral infection that is causing him to cry that way. The doctor checked his heart and lungs, ears and mouth and everything seems fine. He just said keep and eye on him. Watch his breathing and keep a cool humidifier in the room, which we already have. Apparently he is still crying a day later the same way. What is going on. Wish I knew. You get used to what is normal cry and not normal. I hope there is nothing wrong.

Sounds like the colic-my middle child had that and I know what you mean by being scary.
I believe there are some drops you can get over the counter at the drug store-that might help. Did the dr mention that to you?

Yes, Joe, he could have colic. I know the cry you are talking about, and I will never forget it, my oldest had it.

Is your wife breast feeding? If so, she may want to look at the foods she is eating and see if any cause gas. Otherwise there are drops, called Mylacon here in the U.S., that you can use, they help some babies.

Keep us posted.

Keep a good eye on his stool. Cover his face with a blanket when you go out and keep paying close attention. He is telling you he has a little pain somewhere. Probably gas or air bubbles in his tummy.

Has the baby been checked for acid reflux? I hear about this more and more these days with babies. Dont' know if it is common, but I do often hear about it more now than I ever did in the past. You might want that to be checked out if not already done so, just so you can safely rule that out.

I just want to thank everyone who replied. He is doing better now. Thank you. I think the gas, or stomach pain maybe it was, or as J9 said my wife might have eaten something that did not agree with the baby because she is breast feeding.

Joe
