My 12 year Old has Pneumonia/bad Stomach Pains!!

My 12 year old son is experiencing terrible stomach pains after
being diagnosed with pneumonia 2 weeks ago. His doctor took some
blood and said to wait but the pain is severe!!!

Should I consult a Specialist? What kind. His lungs are fine.

These are the things that concern me the most-

1. He's been sleeping soooooo much. A growth spurt? Or connected to what's been going on with his health issues? Today he woke up after 11:00 and was back to sleep at 2:30 - woke him for dinner around 6:00. Not normal and sooooo not like him. YOU know he stays up late and sleeps in - but NEVER a napper. He's napped every day during vacation.

2. Ryan's the kind of kid who's on the phone with another friend making plans before the kid he's playing with at the moment is even gone. He didn't ask for ONE playdate this week.
3. Appetite. While he didn't lose any weight between his last two doctor's appointments, he's just not eating like Ryan. He barely ate lunch today, didn't snack, and I could only talk him into three bites of steak and a mouthful of green bean casseerole (one of his favorites) before he wanted to go BACK to bed.

I know he could still be tired from the pneumonia, but this much? And everything else? What's up with the stomach pain?

Could use some good practical advise on this. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of this sounds like his system is shutting down to repair itself. This is a good thing, not bad. Your body needs to sleep in order for it to get better. Especially with pneumonia.

Now, about the stomach upset. What meds has he been taking for the pneumonia?

None. Only took Zithromax for the virus.

Thanks.

I know this sounds horrible, but you hear about cancer all the time. I hope this is just rebounding back from being sick but it's something to keep your eye on. Leukemia has weird symptoms.

I would not worry about cancer.

He took the Zithro the first week and has been off for how long?

I am wondering if the stomach pain may have anything to do with the Z-Pack. As stomach pain can be a side-effect. It can also be a syptom of a "superinfection" you may want to have him rechecked by his doctor.
