How many therms or BTUs of natural gas goes it take to produce one gallon of ethanol from corn?

You need first to calculate the amount of starch that can be taken from corn. Then the starch is further hydrolyzed to produced alcohol and dioxide. You can now solve this thermodynamically using the bond breaking-forming scheme.
