what to buy a DVD burner

I want to buy a DVD burner and I want to know what to look for in a burner. I ask this question before and someone replied "what format are my movies" I don't know what format a movie would be from a place like blockbuster or Netflix. I’m looking at one burner it is a LG 16x USB 2.0 DL External DVD+RW / RAM Drive w / Lightscirbe. What does 16x USB 2.0 DL and DVD+RW mean?

I've had good luck with my LG DVD CD burner. The 16X means the rate at which the burner burns at. DVD+RW means that it will use the DVD read write discs. In other words the discs can be written and rewritten to instead of used only once. I got the combo so I wouldn't have to keep 2 drives in my machine.
