Networked CD crive is confusing me

Running XP

This computer had a mapped CDROM drive which was mapped as D:.
After intalling a new CDROM drive I noticed that it windows did not add a new drive but instead the Mapped drive is acctually the drive inside the computer.
Renaming the mapped drive to E: gives me a Normal CDROM drive named E: but the Mapped drive remains as D: giving me 2 CDROM drives that are actually the same drive, one claiming to be a mapped network drive. When trying to remove the Networked drive it tells me "The network connection could not be found."
I have no clue wh this is happening and was hoping someone could give me some insight. It's very annoying as I would like to have that mapped drive go away. Hopefully someone can help, thanks!
I have tried net use D: /delete as well.

How did you get a mapping to a local drive in the first place? Have you tried looking in your Network Places and see if you can delete it from there?

It appears to have fixed its self after a restart, weird I tried that before.
Thanks for your help.
