Copying Cds

I have a dell E510 that we just got and I want to make my own song list to copy an play in the car. The system has a cd writer, and a dvd player. I can't get either one of these components to recognize a blank disc to copy to. I am using K kypermedia cd-r recordable discs. They workrd fine on our other hp system. Any suggestions?
