I have decided to keep one of the kittens from my cat's litter and need to know how to ween her from the mother. The mother cats desperately needs to get back on her Front-line. The fleas are starting to take over again and she is very allergic. She is starting to lose her hair. I do quite a bit of traveling for business so I am not home all the time. Anyone have any ideas how to keep the kitten away from the mother or will the mother slowly back off herself?

I have also decided to keep one kitten out of a recent litter. the kittens at approximately 4 weeks of age , got fleas, surprisingly this is the first time I have had to deal with fleas. Anyway to solve the problem, with fleas, I went to the vet and bought a medicated shampoo, and bathed the kittens, and MOM ,it worked well. it was the best course of treatment for my kittens. My kittens are now 8 weeks old, and they are still snuggling up to mom, even though they have been eating on their own and using a litter box. The shampoo I used requires leaving the shampoo on for at least 5 minutes and it also continues to combat fleas when the shampoo is dried, Mom and babies were reunited and everyone was happy/.

I put them both on Frontline plus to get rid of the fleas. I read you can use Frontline plus on kittens once they turn 8 weeks. You can use Frontline plus on pregnant and nursing cats. I did not know this until I did a search. I did not even have to take the Mother cat off of frontline plus to begin with.

As for the weaning, I give up. It seems she is only feeding off her once a day and that is at night. I figure sooner or later she will stop. I have heard of people placing a tube sock over the nipples, but I was not in any mood to try that one.
