My Older Kitten hates my new Young Kitten.

Hello Everyone,

Im hoping somone can help me. I have a 5month old kitten at home who is usually very affectionate and loving (also spayed) Yesterday i rescued a 9 week old kitten so my eldest would have some company when im out at work.

I knew they wouldnt get on great at first but my eldest seems to hate my new one, she hisses and growls non stop at her, she has pawed at her about 3 times - her back doesnt arch and no heckles or busy tail just generally noisy towards her.

My new one isnt fazed at all but the eldest seems really upset by it all, i have seperated them and havent let the new on intrude on the eldest bed etc....

What else can i do to ensure they will get on, was i worng to give the newbie a couple of my kittens old toys she no longer plays with?

They are both female.

Please help!

Thanks!

I have 3 cats and the way I intrduced them was when I brought the 2nd cat home I kept her in a room all by her self for a week.Yes,a week. That way the 1st cat could smell her and she knew another cat was in the house. After a week I traded their spots and put 1st cat in the room where the 2nd cat had been and then let the 2nd cat have the run of the house so she could smell the other one and that way they both knew that another cat was in the house. So then after 2 weeks just let them introduce themselves to each other their way.Dont put them together yourself.Let them find each other. It also worked good for a 3rd cat.You just keep them separated and they will smell the other cats and are more likely to accept them.

Thanks,

They have already beem introduced, its slowly getting better, this morning they were chasing each other around the house, my eldest is obviously faster and kepy pinning the little on down, it looked like they were playing but there was alot of squeeking going on, i just left them to it, my little one keeps going back for more so she cant be hurting her!

Also the little one keeps sneezing, should i be worried or is this okay? Also she makes a squeeky sound, quite like a guniea pig what is this? iv never had a kitty so young before!

Thanks for your help!

Kitty

The squeaky sound is an underdeveloped meow. I would get that sneezing pinned down, you dont want upper respiratory infections setting in. Dont mean to alarm you but some young kittens dont have their immune systems set up properly yet, that is why distemper is such an issue with them. You dont know how long it was with its mother nursing. Keep a close eye on the little thing. You might have to get it some rest at some point. Kittens dont know when to stop.

Okay, ill get her booked into the vets for a check up, i dont want her being ill.

I rescued her from the RSPCA, she was the last of that litter so not sure how long she had been away from her mother. Best think i can do is get her checked over i think.

So are the two of them playing or are they fighting? I cant tell!

Thanks Tickle

My older cat was also the same when our kitten arrived, but they are now best of friends, just give them a little time x
