My kitten was ok last night but today very lethargic
Hi, my kitten is 5 months old and is normally a very bouncey happy moggie, however since this morning she has just wanted to sleep. I would normally just take her straight to the vets and i know this sounds awful but i haven't got any money.
she just doesn't seem interested in anything and just wants to sleep, she hasn't had her jabs as i haven't been able to afford them yet but she doesn't go out because of this.
I am just hoping that she hasnt caught anything nasty
have vets appointment for tomorrow morning, kitten is doin alot better has eaten and drunk, she is sleeping again now but all will be sorted, ty for your advice, I would like to add that i was only asking for advise if someone else had had a sim ilar situation, i didnt need telling how to look after my cats. I have been in tears most of the night because i feel responsible so i really didnt need abuse online when all i wanted was a little help
Why do you think none of us have been in a similar situation? I'll follow J9 - when I got divorced I worked 3 jobs. One of those jobs (part time) paid for NOTHING but Vet care for my German Shepherd who was elderly and sick. The easier course would have been to have him put down or simply ignore his problems. I did neither. There were times when I begged the Vet to allow me to make payments - we had a long standing history and he did. It was a rough time (needless to say) for me and for my dogs.
So don't assume that no one has ever been in your shoes.
When that GSD died, guess whether or not I got another dog? No, I did not. Know why? Because I would not have been able to afford the "start up" costs for another dog. My dogs have all been rescues, some of them sick when I got them, some of them sick for a lifetime due to abuse they suffered.
Trust me, I've been there -
You weren't abused. You were told the truth about loving and caring for pets. Apparently you DO need advice because it wasn't clear to you that the animal needed Vet care.
At any rate - hopefully you will come back and let us know how this turns out.
The thing is, LV, that we cannot diagnose people or animals over the internet. It is a doctor (human or animal) that does the diagnosing based on a physical exam.
I have 4 dogs...my husband lost his job...one of the dogs is sick...my family (includes 2 young children) and I are eating leftovers (better than throwing food away) because we had to take that dog to the vet and pay for it up front.
Look at it this way...if your newborn baby, human baby, were sick, would you look for advice over the internet from strangers? I would hope not.
she is my baby and as i said her apt is booked for tomorrow, she has perked up alot and if you knew my situation I am very sure you would understand, I have not slept as i was caring for her over night, like a i would a baby. I also have 2 young children and yes i have asked for certain advise on my mums net group. I have always had pets since i was tiny and i do get very attached I never had the intention of taking her to the vets, I just honestly cannot afford emergency costs at weekend. that may sound nasty too you but this is not my intention at all I love her as one fo my own, dif being, to take my baby son to hospital is not going to stop my daughter having lunch at school next week.

I meant to say i never not had the intention of taking her to the vets. her apt is at half 8 this morning, she is bouncing around as we speak so i am pretty sure she is over the worst, but i know not to actually ask for advise on here anymore, because I obviously managed to sort the issue myself with your help

You sorted out absolutely nothing - the kitten either got better or is now tolerating whatever is wrong.

It had nothing to do with you.
You are very rude, and when i arrived at the vets this morning, my kitten got clean bill of health it turned out she had scratched the back of her throat on a fish bone, no lasting damage and i done the right thing, the vet actually commended me on my over night vigil giving her water with a syringe. I used to work at an animal shelter, so am quite capable of looking after a sick animal. so in effect I did do something and the kitten wasn't tolerating anything, she just scoffed her tea on friday evening
Very often when the truth is spoken a person is accused of being rude so I'm not surprised.
While it's unfortunate that you feel the way you do about the situation and the advice you've been given no one here is going to retract anything that has been said - if you cannot afford a pet, don't get one.
If you can't afford both pets and children, get rid of one or the other (preferably the pet). If it's a choice between Vet treatment and lunch for your child because you got "one more" pet, then you need to look at your priorities.

Animals suffer, too.
I can afford my kids and my cats. my kitten was treated by a vet this morning, I just could not afford emergency treatment I did consult the vet on saturday evening, and followed instructions, I then took her this morning, tbh I do understand where you are coming from. but i personally have gone without food for both my children and my animals as they are most important. My kitten did not suffer and is back to being her normal bouncy self, she is a healthy 5 months old kitten with a bit of a sore throat. Nobody has the right to judge the type of person someone is by a message online. I don't expect anyone to retract and would like to thank you all for your advise. I do understand each of your points of view. I am against animal cruelty and had to make the heartbreaking desicion in may to have my 18 year old moggie smudge put to sleep and was devistated but i couldnt see him suffer.
I am a very animal loving, kind person and really didnt expect to be made to feel like an ogre.
You have to understand some of the questions we get asked on here, people come on and flat out refuse to take their cat/dog/rabbit to the vet simply because they have no money at all.
You did not specify that you had money for a vet today (not an emergency one), you just said that you don't have the money at all, so naturally we have to assume it's one of those situations where you are refusing to get your cat to the vet.
Not being harsh but I would suggest doing a similar thing to what I do and put aside a little money each week (even if it's only $5-$10) for a 'pet fund' this becomes my emergency fund which I only ever touch for vet visit.

Exactly what I was thinking. You did, in fact, say in your first post:
"I would normally just take her straight to the vets and i know this sounds awful but i haven't got any money."
You said you didn't have any money, and no mention anywhere that you simply couldn't afford the emergency vets, which granted, is much more expensive than just the regular vet clinic. I don't go to the ER either, if I don't have to. I never really considered it an emergency situation -- cats can get sick too and sometimes it goes away and they are fine on their own, and quite often you can wait a day or two and see how things are going, and if they don't get better, then go to the regular vet.
But never once did you say you could get to regular vet when Monday came.
So you're upset with people here over a confusion that you yourself caused.
