Well, for one thing, I hope that you have been showing responsibility by doing things that you are already supposed to do, and doing them in a timely fashion, like getting your homework done, any chores that you are supposed to do around your home, and maybe, if you have another pet in your home, that you have helped to take care of that pet. Those things would be a first step. Also, if you are doing those things well and in a timely fashion, you can use that fact as part of the sales pitch to your parents that you are capable and responsible in those areas, so why shouldn't you be with a cat?

If you show to your parents that you know the things that a cat needs to survive and be a good pet.

I know that I am sounding like a parent. Well, that's because I am one. I have also had cats as pets for all of my life.

Do you know the things that you would need to do in order to take care of a cat? Such as, food and water, exercise, shelter, fur and claw maintenance, shots at the vet, visits to the vet, maintenance of and cleaning of a litter box, flea prevention, proper discipline to the animal if it does something wrong, etc.

If you can explain on your own, those things that are necessary to take care of a cat, then it would help you in convincing your parents to let you have a cat as a pet.

If you don't know about all of those things and more, then I would suggest that you do a Google search for words like, caring for a cat, cat care, how to take care of a cat, cat nutrition, training a cat, keeping a cat as a house pet, etc.

    I hope that this helps!

Well I had to go through the same thing with getting a dog, and I did get it but just because I used these things does not mean you will get your cat. First of all if your parents said no they must have a reason. Are you planning on getting a cat from a pet store or from a shelter? Look around on the internet or just look around near your neighborhood. So than if your parents do say yes you know where you can find one so you don't waste your time looking around. Prove to them that you will feed it clean its litter box and things like that. If it's the kind of cat that likes to claw things you may want to be ready to take the blame. If you are not ready to do all of that then you are not ready to have a cat.
