When you get the cat, I would start out my having everything she needs in one room of the house (litter box, bed, food, etc.) Keeping the door shut at all times. As you come in and out of the room to spend time with her she will grow more curious and eventually want out to the rest of the house to explore. This also gets your cat used to being around you, so when let out into the rest of the house, she shouldn't hide. When you go to spend time with her, brush her, and play with her, make sure she knows when you feed her. She shouldn't be too scared of you. Cats are smart, she will most likely remember your scent and how you make her feel. :-)
