I have a female cat who has always been agressive and nasty. She has always attatcked when you try to touch her and hissed at you when you go near her. She also always attacks my other 2 cats without provocation. She is 8 years old.
Suddenly about 2 days ago she started acting really friendly, miaows constantly for attention and sleeps on my bed with me every night. She no longer attacks the other cats and plonks heself on all our laps at every opportunity. She is the complete opposite to the way she was before. Don't get me wrong it's wonderfull that she's like this but i can't help think there's something wrong with her.
We are all waiting for her to change back. Could there be somthing wrong?
Is she spayed? Did someone move out, a cat or person? Different type of food? Honestly I have never heard of this, just out of the blue change. Only when there is a change in the cats living situation, then sometimes the cats will change .

I've got 2 cats myself, one is 13 and one is 3. I also work at a family owned and operated business and to my luck, we've got two 7 year old cats that live here. One is amazingly friendly and will sleep on my desk and play with my pens and such. The other one however, is kinda senile and acts similar to the way your cat did, hissing and spitting at anyone who may pass by. He had a near death experience not too long ago, he couldn't stand, couldn't keep his eyes open, and drank water constantly. Turns out he's become diabetic in hie old age and was hospitalized for a few days with slim chances. (I know 7 isn't exactly old for a cat but he's certainly no spring chicken anymore). Anyhow, he pulled through and now requires 2 shots of insulin per day. My point is, now you would never know that he used to be nicknamed 'lucifer'. It truly is amazing! He's always purring and looking for some love! He loves to be scratched and runs towards people for pets. I really don't know how to explain it other than his near death experience made him suddenly the sweetest thing. Or maybe ol' Willie and your kitty both realized they're at about the 'halfway' point and are going to take advantage of what they have left Bushg makes a good point, maybe something changed at home? Even something small could have an impact.
Two of my cats are 13 and 15. Both were getting crochety in their old age and even their fur started looking skanky and was falling out. They were given the same canned cat food (Fancy Feast) which they used to slurp up immediately, but during the past six months or so, they left most of the food on the plate.
During the past month or so, they have cleaned their plates, their fur has become shiny and soft, and their behavior is almost kittenish and adorable. We attribute these changes to Fancy Feast having improved their cat food and possibly adding better or eliminating bad ingredients. (Nothing in their lives has changed.) In fact, when I open a can of Fancy Feast these days, I'm tempted to spread some on crackers for ME--it smells soooooo good!!
I wonder if the recent pet food scare had something to do with this. Maybe it's the same with your cat. Have you noticed other improvements, such as a nicer coat, etc.?
I think the diabetic cat was aggressive due to low sugar levels (hypoglycemia) - the same happens in people. If you have ever had low sugar levels yourself then you'll know how grumpy and irritable it can make you!
As for the other OP's cat - very strange! I hope it hasn't has a stroke or any kind of brain injury. Hopefully it has just decided it doesn't feel threatened anymore.
I actually called the vet about her, and they say if she seems healthy there is probably nothing wrong with her. Nothing has changed in the house, so we are all amazed. It's possible she's just had an epiphany and decided that being nice is the way to go! She seems perfectly healthy and our kitten is now bullying her, apparently just because she can!

Templelane- I didn't want to give you a disagree, but I'd like to mention, Willie has always been mean and nasty his whole life. He just recently became diabetic in his older age. It's hard to say if the experience indeed changed his personality, but that's the only thing that seems logical. In my opinion, cats are very intriguing and mysterious creatures and I think I'm with sparky, I believe they both had an Epiphany of some sorts
We got 2 kittens at the same time one was mean and unfriendly and would hiss when you got near it and the other very sweet. Now they have switched rolls the mean one is the sweetest and the other one wont go near anyone anymore.
Go figure! I dont know they are strange and mysterious.
