My cat killed her 4 week old kitten . Why?
My cat turned 1 year old on memorial day , she also gave birth to 1 kitten on that day . She and the kitten were doing fine until about a week ago when she began to move him all over the house from odd place to place . Finally 2 days ago she almost completely stopped nursing him . This morning she smothered or crushed him to death we assume , when I went to get him to feed him again he was under her back hips and he was gone , it happened in matter of a few min . I had justed looked over less than 10 min. before and could see him moving around and he was as nosey as ever . Why did she do this ?

As domesticated as we think our animal are, they at one time where wild. It is customary for a cat to move her litter several times while she is taking care of them. It is hard to say what happened. She may have stopped nursing him because he was sick. He could have died from an underlining issue that was unknown to you. Then again she was young and could have smothered him but it is highly unlikely.

o.k. to begin with we have a young mother cat. Then she only gives birth to one kitten. And why were you having to feed the kitten? Because there should have been an abundance of milk from the mother cat. And I guess either the kitten was having some complications and the mother cat let it die on purpose because she knew it was terminally ill.

Obviously someone or u must of handled the kitten whil the mother was nursing which put her of her kitten thinking it wasn't hers u must never really handle the kitten until the mothers done nursing.
