    Cat has runny eye
? I was wondering if someone could tell me if they know what could cause a runny eye in cats. About 2 days ago, I noticed that my cats left eye started running. It is a clear liquid, so I don't know if she just got something in it and it is running or what. I was wondering if anyone had any advice that could help me out before I have to take her to the vet. They eye doesn't appear to be swollen and it doesn't look injured, she is an indoor cat and I have no other cats, so I don't know what it could be. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, what could I use on the eye? Should I try and flush it out? Thanks!

If it hasn't cleared up by now, I hope you called the vet. I know dogs get infections, and the best thing is to get some antibiotics from the vet.

I am disappointed nobody that knows cats answered. This seems to be a nice site, but not much traffic I would like to see it grow. I check it once a day. You can tell others there is a caring, knowledgeable expert to help with dogs here. Maybe you need to try a more active site like pointask.com or allexperts.com.

    Hi

This is quite normal for cats to have runny eyes from time to time. Sometimes antibiotics are needed to clear up infections. BUT you can also used cold black tea to wash the eyes on a daily basis, the tanin in the tea will clear away most infections in cats eyes.

Call the FEED STORE in your area [Yellow Pages under "Feed Dealers"; feed stores usually carry antibiotics for farm animals and more than likely will have an antibiotic eye ointment that will help your cats eyes. If you exhaust this possibility and the cat isn't better, then the vet is the only alternative. I always try the feed store 1st.

I saw this thread by googling it, and my cat has the same problem... Just recently I noticed that my cats right eye is started to run a little, and I thought I'd just keep this all on the same thread instead of starting a new one... Someone mentioned something about black tea, and although I don't have that exact kind, I was wondering if any kind of black tea would work... I have plenty of it around... Thanks

Black tea work best. Lipton or any other normal brand of tea works. Steep the tea bag for about 4 min then add ice cubes. Once cool place the tea bag on the cats eyes don't be afraid to give it a little squeeze. Kitty will most likely not like this. So be sure to be sitting with cat firmly in your lap. Repeat daily if it does not clear up or the discahrge is cloudy or green call the vet. Can lead to upper respritory infection which can be dangerous if not treated with antibiotics.
