8 mos. old cat, hiding

My family just purchased an 8 month old Maine Coon cat. He had been living in an appartment with 3 adults, his parents and 2 other cats. He now spends the day under my daughter's bed and at night when we're sleeping, eats and uses the litter box. He lets us pet him when he's under the bed and has shown no signs of aggression, but he will not come out. Do we let him under the bed or force him out with us? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 8 mos. old cat, hiding

Depending on how long you have had the cat, I would suggest giving it at least two weeks to get used to the new house-hold. Cats get stressed very easily.

Do you have other cats? If not you might think about getting a kitten (between 3 and 5 months preferably) as a companion. He sounds as if he's used to other cats.

Get a Feliway Comfort Zone plug in and place it in the room where the cat is hiding. Feliway made from a phermone which cats release from their facial glands and it makes them calm and happy. My cats absolutely love it!!

Good luck!

Hi if the cat seems happy to be there and your not bothered about the cat being there let the cat be happy? But if you need to move the cat then spray air freshner over the carpet under the bed when the cat is not there should do the trick. CHRIS
