Generally, kittens should only be away from their mother after 9 weeks old, as this has given themselves time to develop and it is usually at around this age that they have their vacinations and are newted if necessary. It isnt important for them to drink water at this age, their is a lot of controversy about wether cats should or should not drink milk but myself having a cat and 6 kittens, a little milk and raw egg mixed together strengthens the kittens immune system and eventually keep trying them with water they will adjust, its simply like a baby, ween the kittens off the milk and onto water. Caution though it is only advisable to give so much milk a day, and a usefull tip is to warm up the milk first,as this is what the kittens will know from their mother.
