my 2 wk old kittens have fleas really bad and all the meds say they have to be 12 wks to use on them. i'm desperate to do something before they end up dying. can anyone help me. i'm afraid i dont have much time!
i use front line on my cats to get rid of fleas.
But im not entirely sure how old a cat needs to be to use frontline, as 1 is 5 yrs old and the other 2 yrs old. But ive been using frontline ever since i had them. And if im not mistaken its not an antibiotic.

Normally, 6 weeks is the age to possibly start using some type of flea "killer".
But, at just 2 weeks old, I would use a comb, one with teeth very close together, and comb them gently. You can remove some of the fleas like that, but wouldn't want to do it in the house!

You can bath the kitten in warm anti-bacterial dish soap, all you need to do is drown the fleas and as you wash the little guy the fleas will make their way to his head simply pick off the few that make it there. Do not use anything to kill the fleas on the kitten as the kitten is to young, Make sure you pick up where the kitten was to try and remove the fleas from his bedding. once the kitten is old enough you can buy flea control, (O: I hope this was some what helpful to you.
I'm not sure that this will work for kittens... Ask a vet before hand. I have used a refillable bedding filled with cedar chips to deal with flea outbreaks and some cedar oil in areas of the house where the animals can't get to on carpets. It's a natural way of getting rid of the fleas. Fleas are repulsed by the cedar smell and will run away from it. Like I said though ask a vet about this first because the oils may have an adverse effect on the little ones.
Myth and lilfyre said good points. Only bathing a kitten that young you have to be VERY VERY careful about body temperature after bathing blow dry the kitten off never allow it to chill. I would recommend to try using a flea comb. Make sure you get them off of mom also. And yes no pesticides on kittens that young of course. ........ I hate fleas.... Kind of ironic seeing as me and the doctor at the clinic I work at were talking about this the other day and he said there was something you can use but I cannot remember for anything what he said it was, ill ask him tomorrow and reply again.
Jennapbt, Let us know about the cedar chips too... I would be interested in what a vet has to say about them. I would rather treat fleas naturally rather than with pesticides. I know it works with outdoor dogs and cats and that they will naturally seek a bed of chips out. I'm hoping that it will work on young kittens and puppies as well so that they don't die from the fleas.
I asked the doctor he said that you can use frontline or and topical spray and spray it on a paper towel and lightly dampen the kitten to control the fleas just being careful not to get any in the eyes and mouth or around the head in general. Using a flea comb works really well also. As for the cedar he wasnt too sure of the effects it has on fleas, knowing him he'll probably investigate it. He said that they are probably repelled because of the oils in the cedar, but wasnt too sure if it worked as well as anything else. We still couldnt remember what he had read somewhere that said you can use something natural to kill the fleas, he rambles on about lots of things so he couldnt remember either lol. Actually........I THINK he said something about corn starch now that I think of it.
