Hello, my cat had a few fleas before she had her kittens and I was afraid to put anything on her. When the kittens were born I saw a couple on them. I figured I would just take care of it when they where old enough to get Frontline, or the like. However, they became infested very quickly and I knew I couldn't let it go. I belong to a wellness company called Melalueca, they have a solvent called Sol-U-Mel. It's main ingredient is tea tree oil. I poured it straight on the kitties belly and back, I also rubbed a little on their heads. The fleas were killed dead in their tracks. Now the kitties are fluffy, happy and smell fresh. I recommend getting some tea tree oil at a health food store or looking on eBay for Sol-U-Mel. It works wonders and is non-toxic. I would still avoid getting it in their eyes however.

Give your kitty a bath start at her head and throat get it wet (splash water on it) so the fleas will run down her back then dunk the rest of her body in the water to drown them. try and keep her body in the water for a few minutes so that they drown..try and find a gentle kittens soap if possible.( Ivory soap should be ok..you also need to get a fine tooth flea comb, also I would recommend bombing your house, please be careful and read and follow the instructions on the can. Do not leave animals or fish in the house! while bombing If the kittens has a momma you may want to treat her for fleas as well, check label to make sure it is ok for nursing mommas. I hope this helps

I used to be a vet tech and we used alcohol to kill fleas on puppies and kittens.

just keep it out of their mouths, and away from moma cat's belly .apply to top of kitten's neck and all over it's body.the fleas die quickly.

my kittens are a few months old and i am going to try some of the natural remedies... cedar bedding and spray, brewers yeast and garlic added to food, maybe tea tree oil, although i know that is very potent stuff... also peppermint and lavendar are recommended to repel fleas on bedding etc...

be very careful if you choose to give kittens a bath, they easily catch cold. they cannot regulate their body temperatures when they are VERY young, so dont give baths, maybe a damp cloth... kittens may "fail to thrive" if they get a headcold or infection and kill the baby kitten.

while frontline is very good for adult cats and dogs do not put any frontline or other chemical on the mother because it will rub off on the kittens. there are plenty of good all-natural collars and sprays although they need to be re-applied more often than the chemical repelents.
someone told me that fleas will not drown easily and the only way to kill them dead is in alcohol, also if you bathe your adult animal, get his/her head wet first because the fleas will run into the ears if you start from the other end...

also if you use a flea spray on the kitten, wrap the kitten in a towel, 20 minutes is recommended, the fleas can't jump off and you will contain the dead fleas.

My kitten had fleas also, If you will get some Lemon Fresh Joy dish liquid, soap her up real good and wrap it in a towel for about 5 minutes, then make sure you rinse the kitten real good. This should get rid of most of the fleas. Be careful not to get the soap in the kitten's eyes.
