Why won't the new starter not move the flywheel when the flywheel will move by hand?
The flywheel seems to lock up when trying to start.just put new starter in, the motor turns by hand at the flywheel and front of engine. But yet it seems to try and start but just stops with a clunk.there is no teeth missing from flywheel, made sure to check for that also. Can u Help?

Sounds like the old days when shimming the starter made all the difference in the world.
Maybe we're talking about an old car. Don't know. What's it on, jason31? Where did this "new" starter come from?

It could be a case of needing shims but it could also be a defective starter. I've seen a few of them right out of the box that don't work.
