A moonroof doesn't open fully and is usually tinted to stop too much sun gettting in!

Sunroofs open fully, or tilt a little to let air in as well as sun!

Variations have become the norm and often combine the features of the Sun and Moon types into a single device. It is not uncommon to see tinted glass that can retract fully like a traditional sun roof, remain closed like a traditional moon roof, or tilt to allow for airflow.

A sunroof usually just pops up and lets sunlight and air in when popped. This is because it's a metal plate, which means that sunlight only comes in when popped up. A moonroof has the little cloth thing to cover the glass that pops up and moves all the way back, and sunlight can come in when the cloth thing is pulled back and it can be closed. Sunroofs also tend to be crank, some are electronic. Almost all moonroofs are electronic, very few old ones are manual.
