I believe I installed the Brake Light Switch properly; however when I touch the brake pedal I get no brake lights at all. I still can't get the shifter out of park also. I got a spark when I tried to splice together the wires for the new switch I installed; so tommorrow I intend to check my fuses. Maybe i shorted something out because I did not disconnect the (-) battery terminal before I started to splice those wires. I hope I'm not staring at a major repair cost here. Can't afford it right now. Thanx all.

FYI lots of cars have a shift lock release which will override the feature that is preventing you from shifting out of park. Use this feature at your own risk of course. You might try looking in your user manual. I found a little info that may be useful in a generic way here:
