my starter wont tern my fly weel

I have a 2002 pontiac grandam just replaced the starter after several people said I had a bad starter. I tightened everything back and now wont start, Its trying to turn over but doesnt sound like its catching like it should. Any suggestions on what to do next or to check would be great. thankyou
