    Starter on a Ford Taurus
Can someone tell me is there a way to get your starter to work so I can get my car home or to a garage. I know it's the starter because I don't even get a click with it when I turn the key and my battery is still very strong. Is there not a way to bang the starter to get it to go? Please help cause you know being a female I will get taken in all areas.

    Sincerely,
    Christine

Well if the starter isn't totally fried, and yes you're right it probably is, about your only hope is to try to tap on the side of the starter motor housing with a hammer but not really hard, this might free up the gear to come out if it is sticking.Another possibility is the wires to the solenoid could be loose or corroded not allowing it to kick the gear out. If you decide to check the wire connections make sure to disconnect battery cables first,if you don't you'll have fireworks again on the 5th. Good luck !

Where is the starter located on a 2006 ford taurus? I believe it's the stater but the only way my car starts is by a jump but I don't know where the starter is so that I can hit it to start.

Eskimomyworld, it definitely sounds like the battery is bad. Most new batteries only last 3 to 4 years. Remove and install a new battery or try charging your existing one. Most auto parts stores will test/charge batteries for free. Afterwards, check the alternator with a multimeter:

Jumping the battery is very dangerous--a voltage spike can fry the ECM, alternator, or sensors. Very expensive to fix. Best to just remove and fully charge/replace the battery.

On Tauruses, the starter is located between the radiator and the engine block, slightly on the driver's side. It's held on by two bolts. Remember to remove the negative battery cable first. On DOHC engines (Duratec), you may want to remove the battery and battery tray. Taurus starters are very good and last a long time--that is definitely not your problem.

    The link below should help:

FYI, there are 15 articles in the Ford and Mercury section of the "Sticky" that are directly applicable to your Taurus.

Well if your starter won't turn try this.Look at starter under car look at the red wire, and little black wire for good contact,if you see green around those connections,or they are lose try to turn them in the tightest position, and then start it up.If that don`t work it means the starter is seized stuck in a "jam" mode due to a worn end ring.In some cases a hammer will work by hitting the ends, but not to hard to bust anything. In most cases the starter is ruined, and won't run at all.Replacing the starter is easy.It takes about 20 minutes or less.First remove the positive cable on battery. You need a 10mm open end,and a 7/16 1/2 for the starter wires.1/2 inch regular socket, for the starter and it drops out.(ALWAYS REMOVE WIRES FIRST)
