shock replacement

I had my car in for a state inspection...and i was told that my rear shocks have a leak and need to be replaced sometime soon..107K 2004 toyota 4runner

he passes me cause he did not have shocks in stock, but what would happen if i do not replace them right away? any dangers to the car or just ride feel (bumpy)?

I may be selling/trading in truck but I want to wait a a few months before changing them

can i cause any harm to car

Shocks and struts do far more than give you a comfortable ride. Worn shocks and struts affect your ability to steer and keep the car in lane and increase your stopping distance by almost 25%

Here's a full article on it Shocks
